What is hemp?
Hemp is a variety of cannabis, but unlike marijuana, it does not contain the psychoactive compound THC. The stalk of the hemp plant contains fiber and hurd, which can be used in a variety of applications. The seeds can be pressed for oil or hulled to produce hemp hearts, which are edible and often consumed for their nutritional benefits.
Is hemp marijuana?
No, hemp is not marijuana. Hemp does not produce the psychoactive “high” associated with marijuana. All hemp is tested for THC levels, and it must contain less than 0.3% THC to be legally used. For comparison, marijuana typically contains around 15% THC.
Will I (or my animal) get high from the THC in hemp?
No, you cannot get high from hemp. Industrial hemp is grown in compliance with U.S. government regulations, which require THC levels to remain below 0.3%. This amount is too low to produce any psychoactive effects.
Is CO2 contained in hemp seeds?
No, CO2 is not present in the seeds. Eating hemp hearts or consuming hemp oil will not introduce CO2 into your body. The carbon is stored in the fibers of the plant, which are used for products like textiles and building materials.
Is hemp good for the planet and environment?
Yes! Hemp is considered a “carbon sink” because one acre of hemp absorbs more carbon than one acre of trees. The carbon is stored in the plant and remains locked in throughout its various processing stages.
Where does Green Fox source and process its hemp?
Unlike many of our competitors, we grow our hemp right on our family-owned farm in central Minnesota! We don’t import hemp from other countries, so you can be confident in knowing exactly where your product comes from. By growing, processing and packaging locally, we minimize carbon emissions associated with transportation, making our hemp more environmentally friendly and effective at capturing carbon.
What are hemp hearts?
Hemp hearts are the soft, edible inner part of the hemp seed. They have a mild, nutty flavor that makes them a versatile addition to many dishes, from smoothies to salads and beyond. Explore our recipe page for creative ways to add hemp hearts to your meals.
How will I benefit from eating hemp hearts?
Hemp hearts are jam-packed with nutrition. They are high in fiber, iron, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids and provide 10 grams of protein per serving. Incorporating hemp hearts into your diet can improve heart health, brain function, digestion, cholesterol levels and more.
What is hemp hurd?
Hemp hurd (or Shiv) is the woody inner core of the hemp stalk. Hurd can be used in a wide range of applications, including animal bedding, construction materials, mulch, textiles, and insulation. Learn more about this versatile product and the various sizes we offer!
Why should I use hemp hurd for animal bedding?
Hemp hurd bedding offers a range of benefits that make it an excellent choice for animal care. Compared to other bedding materials, hemp hurd significantly outperforms in terms of absorbency, promoting better hygiene and overall animal well-being. It also resists odors by trapping ammonia and waste smells, making it a fresher, more pleasant option for both animals and caretakers. Hemp hurd is low in dust, which supports healthier respiratory systems for both animals and humans. Thanks to its absorbent and odor-fighting properties, hemp hurd lasts longer than traditional bedding, saving you time and money over time. Plus, its soft and comfortable cushioned surface encourages animals—especially horses—to lie down and rest more often. When it’s time to replace the bedding, hemp hurd can be added to compost, where it decomposes more quickly than pine shavings, making it an eco-friendly option as well.
Hemp hurd bedding tends to be more expensive than traditional bedding materials because of the costs involved in growing the hemp and extracting the hurd from the plant. However, while the upfront cost may be higher, hemp hurd is more durable and absorbent, meaning you’ll use less of it compared to wood shavings or straw. This longer-lasting quality helps you save money over time.
Green Fox Hemp Hurd is an ideal bedding for animals of all sizes – whether at home, on a hobby farm or in larger facilities like equestrian centers and zoos. Suitable for small animals like hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, and chickens, as well as larger animals such as sheep, goats, pigs, cattle, and horses, this eco-friendly product will benefit both you and your animals. Explore our wholesale page for more information on the various sizes we offer.
Hemp seed oil is a cold-pressed oil extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa) using a mechanical process that does not involve heat or chemicals. This method preserves the oil’s natural nutrients, including essential fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants. It is rich in essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6, and is often used in cooking, skincare, and dietary supplements. Unlike CBD oil, which is extracted from hemp leaves and flowers, hemp seed oil does not contain cannabinoids like THC or CBD.
Yes, hemp seed oil can be used for cooking, but it has a low smoke point (around 330°F or 165°C), meaning it is not ideal for frying or high-heat cooking. It is best used in salad dressings, dips, smoothies, or as a finishing oil to preserve its nutritional benefits.
Yes, cold-pressed hemp seed oil can be applied topically to moisturize and sooth dry, irritated skin. It’s often used to improve the appearance and health of the skin by supporting hydration and reducing inflammation.
