Industrial Hemp’s Most Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is industrial hemp?
Industrial hemp is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant that’s specifically grown for consumption and industrial use. Unlike marijuana, industrial hemp has an extremely low THC content making it suitable for consumption rather than recreational use.
The stalk of the industrial hemp plant contains fiber and hurd that are used in farming, building, and industrial settings. Hemp seeds can be pressed for oil or hulled to produce hemp hearts. Both are edible and highly recommended for their nutritional benefits.
2. Is industrial hemp the same as marijuana?
No, industrial hemp is not the same as marijuana or marijuana-derived CBD. Industrial hemp does not produce the psychoactive “high” that’s associated with marijuana because it legally must contain less than 0.3% THC. All industrial hemp is tested for THC levels to ensure the crop is regulated and legal. For comparison, marijuana contains about 15% THC.
CBD (what’s extracted from either hemp or marijuana leaves) does come from the Cannabis sativa plant but is cultivated and utilized for different purposes than any industrial hemp-derived products. Industrial hemp and hemp-derived CBD must have a THC level below 0.3%. Marijuana-derived CBD can contain higher levels of THC depending on state regulations and legislatures.
3. can i or my animals get high from hemp?
No! Humans and animals can’t, and won’t, get high from industrial hemp. Industrial hemp is grown in compliance with U.S. government regulations requiring THC levels to be below 0.3%, which is too low of an amount to produce any psychoactive effects.
4. is hemp good for the environment?
Hemp is good for the environment and one of the core crops in our Green Fox and Rookie Farmers regenerative farming process. Why hemp? The hemp plant is considered a “carbon sink” because it sequesters carbon and stores it in the ground instead of the air. One acre of hemp absorbs more carbon than one acre of trees!

Not only does hemp help lower carbon emissions, but the plant itself is a zero-waste crop. We use each part of the hemp plant for a very specific purpose whether it’s to create nutritious grains and oils, produce sustainable animal feed and bedding, or rejuvenate the Rookie Farmers fields it grows in. This holistic approach ensures minimal waste and maximizes the value of hemp, staying true to our sustainable, zero-waste philosophies.
5. How does green fox grow hemp?
Unlike most of our competitors, we don’t import any hemp from other states or countries. We grow our hemp on our family-owned farm, Rookie Farmers, right down the road from our plant in Central Minnesota!

So, what does our hemp growing process look like? After harvesting in the late summer months, we leave the leaves of the hemp plant in the field to help keep it protected during the winter. Once the snow melts, the soil is nutrient-rich and ready for planting.
Our Rookie Farmers don’t use a standard planter for hemp, instead they use a drill and plant them in 7 ½ - inch rows. From there, we let it grow! And when the next harvest season comes round, the Rookies take the combines through the fields, taking the heads of the hemp plant off first then chopping down the stalks. Both the heads and stalks are then brought right down the road to our Green Fox plant for processing.
