Know Your Source: How We Control Quality From Start to Finish
Not all products are created equal. And a big part of quality comes down to who’s behind the process.
Here at Green Fox, we don’t rely on third parties to grow, process, or package any of our products. We handle it all ourselves from start to finish. To ensure consistency, quality, and transparency at every stage.
From field to final bag, every decision we make is with you in mind. Learn about our farm, our process, and why’ll you never have to second guess what you’re getting when you choose Green Fox.
Growing with intention
Every Green Fox product starts just down the road from our facility at our family-owned farm, Rookie Farmers. Our Central Minnesota farm has been in the family for 5 generations, and we’re proud to continue the tradition of regenerative farming.

Regenerative farming is the process of restoring soil that has been degraded from conventional farming for long term sustainability and efficiency. Crops can grow with sunlight and water, but crops won’t really grow without healthy soil. Traditional practices strip the soil of its nutrients, leaving it dryer and less dense season after season.
Not only did we purposefully choose the road less traveled to help restore our community’s soil and environment, regeneratively growing our own crops allows us to provide quality products season after season and leave the land better than we found it. Here are just a few of the regenerative practices we proudly use:
- Minimal Tillage
- We sparingly till our fields to protect its natural structure and the microbes living in it
- Living Roots in the Ground 24/7/365
- We leave living roots in our fields all year to constantly build biodiversity and soil fertility
- Crop Rotation
- We rotate a diverse range of crops to give the soil a balanced diet which translates to nutrient-dense foods for you
- Year-Round Soil Coverage
- To protect against brutal Minnesota winters and erosion, we plant a cover crop in our fields after harvest season
from field to facility: Keeping Quality Intact
Just like our growing practices, our harvest and processing processes are rooted in quality and sustainability. And it all starts with being the source of our products rather than importing like some competitors.

Our farmers typically harvest from early September to the end of October. For our crops like industrial hemp, they will first go through the fields taking the heads off the plants, harvesting the hemp seeds, leaving the stalk of the plants. They will then bring the yield right down the road to our Green Fox facility where our dedicated food-safety team carefully sifts and shells the seeds for our Hemp Hearts. Resulting in a nutrient-rich plant-based protein with no chemicals, no additives, and no middlemen.
We don’t stop at Hemp Hearts either! We cold-press our hemp seeds to make all-natural Hemp Seed Oil that’s rich in omega fatty acids and antioxidants. Cold-pressing ourselves helps preserve the nutrients and flavor of the oil. The coproduct of our oil pressing processing, Hemp Cake, is saved and packaged to be used in animal diets.
Once all of the seeds are harvested, our farmers will then bale the stalks of the hemp plants left in the field. Those bales get brought to Green Fox where we separate the fiber from the rest of the plant through a process called decortication. Our production team then uses that fiber to make our low-dust Hemp Hurd animal bedding and our line of sustainable, hemp-based construction building materials like acoustic panels and insulation.
Why don’t we just stop at the hemp seeds? As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are a Zero-Waste facility. Meaning we use 100% of every plant we grow, giving life to something that would have otherwise been wasted. This commitment helps us reduce waste and create high quality products for consumption, for animals, and for other industries like construction. And because we are so close to our fields, we are reducing emissions and increasing efficiency for our farmers and overall production.
from our facility to you
We offer our products in a variety of retail and wholesale formats. So, after post-harvest processing, our teams move the product to our in-house, safe storage. Some product is packaged right away like our 16oz bags of Hemp Hearts and our 8 and 28lb Hemp Hurd animal bedding. And when we receive an order, we are able to fulfill and ship them within 1-2 business days.

It’s not going to another warehouse. No one else is packaging and shipping it. We do everything in-house to provide the best customer experience and customer service no matter where you’re ordering from, or how much you’re getting. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice freshness or quality, and you shouldn’t have to second guess what you’re buying.
